The Islamic approach to social care

Social care according to the Islamic faith

Belief in the Islamic religion is linked to benevolence to the weaker groups in society, and therefore social care in Islam is at the heart of religious belief. This is what this article seeks to explain.

The Islamic approach to social care

Social care according to the Islamic faith

One of the well-established beliefs in the Islamic religion is that God Almighty created Adam, peace is upon him, with his hand, breathed into him of his spirit, and his angels prostrated to him. By the words of God Almighty {So your Lord told the angels: "I am about to create a human being from ringing clay, molded slime.} [Surat Al-Hijr: 28-29], and God Almighty says: "I am about to create a human being out of clay. When I have fashioned him and breathed from My spirit into him, drop down on your knees before him." [Surat Sād: 70-71].

Hence, the man was a good creature, preferred over the rest of the creation, as evidenced by God Almighty saying: And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference. [Al-Isrā’:70]

Because of the leading position that man occupies in the creation system, the Creator, Blessed, and Exalted is He, made benevolence to the children of Adam at the core of belief, especially the vulnerable groups, and abused the evidence of the corruption of faith.

Caring for the weak is at the core of true belief

The message of Islam is keen to achieve human dignity and remove all causes and manifestations of human humiliation and contempt.
Hence, the transmission of Islam made caring for the vulnerable groups in society a core of the correct belief, and evidence of trust in God alone who has no partner, and proof of certainty on the Day of Judgment and Recompense.
God Almighty said, describing the believers: "They offer food to the needy, the orphan and the captive out of love for Him: [Saying], "We are only feeding you for Allah (God) 's sake. We want no reward from you nor any thanks. We fear a gloomy, dismal day from our Lord." [Surat Al-Insān 8-10].
Al-Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi said: "Know that the summaries of obedience are limited to two matters: veneration for the command of God Almighty, and to him is referenced by his saying: They always keep their word [Al-Insan: 7] and pity for God's creation, and to him is referenced by His saying: "and they offer food"

And includes the meaning of feeding the provision of all the reasons that remove human poverty and deprivation; This is like good education, helpful training, and suitable employment for the unemployed.
Perhaps these matters are the best types of feeding because they preserve the dignity of the members of the Islamic community, involve them in the development of their society, and provide them with a stable source of livelihood that protects them from the vicissitudes of time, the humiliation of question, and religion's worries and the oppression of men. Those are the calamities from which the Messenger of Mercy, upon him be peace, seeks protection.

And what testifies to the fact that feeding is general in everything that benefits it is that many scholars see that "feeding food is a metaphor for kindness to the needy and sympathizing with them in any way whatsoever… And what strengthens this is that eating expresses all the benefits, so it is said: So-and-so ate his money if he destroyed it. In other aspects of spoilage, the Almighty said: "Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming into their bellies fire." [Surat An-Nisā': 10], and said: "And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly" [Surat Al-Baqarah].

And the analogy of the verse is the Almighty's saying: "But he has not broken through the difficult pass, and what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? It is the freeing of a slave or feeding on a day of severe hunger, An orphan of near relationship, Or a needy person in misery" [Al-Balad 90/11-16], And His saying, Glory be to Him, "and gives wealth, in spite of love for it" [Al-Baqarah 177/2]. His saying: "You will never attain virtue until you spend something you are fond of" [Surat Āl-‘Imrān 3/92].

The Importance of social care in Islam

It has reached the extent of God Almighty's honoring of the needy that God Almighty has made alms-giving to them a loan to Him, the Exalted, His Majesty, so said the Mighty of the one who said: "Who is it that would loan Allāh a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allāh who withholds and grants abundance, and to him, you will be returned." [Al-Baqarah: 245]. And the highest said: "Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allāh a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward." [Al-Hadīd: 18].

The Imam professor said: It is known that God Almighty is beyond the worlds, so he does not need anything for His sake, nor is He a provider for a specific group, so he borrows for them; this expression of lending must be in a correct way - that is, other than what gives it the method of appeal.

Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Rida says: "Spending for Allah's sake is one of the signs of faith and its people absolutely necessary for it, who feels that the believer should spend everything he has for Allah's sake."

That is why mercy for the weak is a sign of goodness. Therefore, the Prophet, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, said: (O Allah, I ask You for good actions and for leaving what is disapproved of and for love of the poor).

It is clear, then, that social care for the lower classes in the Muslim community is an integral part of the concept of faith in the correct Islamic conception. Therefore, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, she said: The Messenger of God, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, said: (I and the one who looks after an orphan in Paradise will be like these two) and combined the index and middle fingers.

And in the authentic hadeeth also: (The person who strives on behalf of the widows and poor is like those who strive in the way of Allah and like those who fast in the day and pray at night). see more here
